Tell us a little about yourself and what you create.

My name is Lisa He and I specialize in Decorate Sugar Cookies and French Macarons. I dabble in drop cookies, cakes, and other pastries if given an opportunity 😊

How long have you been decorating/baking?

I have been baking since sophomore year of college – so about 12 years now!

 What got you started?

I needed a form of stress relief from studying biomedical engineering in college—and baking was the perfect outlet, since it would occupy 100% of my attention and I wasn’t thinking about academics.

 What are your inspirations?

I have so many! Aside from other amazing bakers (Holly Fox, Inspired to Taste, Sweet Sugar Belle, to name only a few), I also draw inspiration from everything around me- home décor, wrapping paper, kitchenware, magazines, billboards, you name it!

What is your favorite item you have made?

I have a few favorites—and it rotates… See Below!

What is something fun or quirky about you that most people wouldn’t know?

I used to be a competition badminton player in high school. It was real serious. I have some trophies 😉

I love sharing my passion for sugar cookies with others—on my Instagram and Blog, you’ll find a ton of cookier related tips/tricks and resources on where I purchase my tools and materials, be sure to check it out!

You can find Lisa online in these places.

Featured Sugar Artist-January 2019-Kassy Jimenez

Hello Friends! Happy New Year! Yes, we are going to keep saying that all month long! :)

One of the things we wanted to start doing this year is featuring other sugar artists that we know or that have been recommended to us. We have the first few months filled up and we are so excited to share some awesome friends with you!

We decided to share Kassy Jimenez first. She is super sweet and loves the baking community. We really think that she embodies characteristic that we try to have as well. She is always willing to share knowledge and is kind to everyone. We found Kassy way back when, when Periscope took off! Is anyone still over there? I have no idea if people still use that as we moved on ourselves to other things but it was so cool at the time. We “met” many artists that we still follow and love today. So without further ado, please meet Kassy! If you aren’t already, go follow her and show some love on her pages. She does lots of lives on Instagram, has many tutorials and videos on Yioutube and has fun classes you can take!

You won’t be sorry!

How long have you been decorating/baking?

-I have been baking and decorating for about 5 years.

What got you started?
-When I was young my Grandma and I would make Sicilian Easter Bread so that’s what started the baking bug. After she had passed and I got older I didn’t want to see the tradition die so I decided to start baking again.

Once that happened I immersed myself into anything baking on Youtube. Baking and trying the techniques I was learning from the videos.

What are your inspirations?

-The short answer is to make an impact. I never got into baking to make friends or join a community. Social media changed that for me and sharing the honest reality of this on my platform has become how I keep inspired. It use to come really easy until I saw the ugly part of this “community” so I made a conscious decision to be open about it so other bakers wouldn’t fall trap to the fake that tends to envelope this “community”. Thankfully because of my choice to be open I have been able to meet people and be apart of a true community that I refer to as “My Peeps”.

What is your favorite item you have made?

-Hands down my favorite cake was my very first competition cake. It was the fact that after 3 years of attending this cake show and being to terrified to enter that I finally did it! I lost and I pouted about it for a quick minute then I took that cake home and still to this day it is proudly displayed in my cake room.

What is something fun or quirky about you that most people wouldn’t know?

-If you haven’t caught one of my Instagram lives then you would probably have no idea that I will sometimes do entire tutorials as one of my alter egos. Like Julia Childs country cousin Foolia Childs who lives in the country and likes to try out recipes in all her country lovin glory! Sometimes my New Yorker friend comes to visit and do tutorials too. It is a blast and I have been doing these voices ever since I was young, now I am just crazy enough to put it on the inter webs!

Christmas and Other Life Happenings- So Long 2018

Hello Friends!

Unfortunately, you can tell we weren't consistent with the blog this year... whoopsie! It's a big goal to do better in 2019! Wish us luck!

Often we get really busy with work and life and forget, it just hasn't become a habit yet but we promise to keep working on it. We love to share and interact with our friends and customers! If there is anything you would like to see here please let us know in the comments.

As we get ready to head into 2019 we want to take a moment and tell you how blessed we feel this year! We have had a great year making all your treats and cakes! We love our clients and being a part of your special life events! You guys are what keep us going and we thank you for supporting our small business which, of course, is our passion but also helps us care for 6 growing children. haha

Here is our TOP 9 posts on Instagram from 2018. It's funny how that works but this always includes some of our favorites as well!

One exciting thing that happened this year has been having the opportunity to go on Sugar Rush on Netflix! That was such a blast, and we loved meeting new friends on the show and also all the support and love we have gotten from fans around the world. So thank you for being kind and not making fun of our goofy faces! ;)

Another activity we expanded this year is teaching. We have done a couple cake classes and many, many cookie classes. We really enjoy teaching and our cookie classes have taken off this year, so again thanks to you all for coming to our classes and asking for more! We plan to keep offering classes each month and also some online things are coming up. You can find our classes listed on the websites of Studio223 and East Valley Cake Decorating Supplyhttp://evcds.com/. We also talk about them as they come up on our Instagram and Facebook pages and plan to add a calendar here on our site, as well.

We expanded to start a small Etsy shop this year as well and we offered cookies as well as our printable canvases and some art canvases. That has been a lot of fun and surprising to see what you all like! We hope to keep growing in that area. We also started a weekly Instagram Live which is then added to our YouTube channel. We plan to add more content and tutorials soon!

We are always blessed to be asked to help out at our favorite charities as well. We've made treats for Cakes for Causes, HopeKids, Icing Smiles and Operation Shower, among others. It's always our joy to give back as much as we can and we hope to be a part of these groups again this coming year.

As we head into the New Year, yes make goals and yes have plans but please remember to give yourself grace too. Things don't always have to happen quickly or perfectly and we need to be okay with that. It's all a process and we will get to where we need to go at just the right time.

Here's to a Blessed and Joyful 2019,
In Love<> Bonnie and Breanna
